“We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done” (Psalm 78:4). New Year’s resolutions fade with every flip of the calendar. For the vast majority of Americans, the grand vision put to practice on January 1 tends to flop in February, miss in March, and be altogether absent by April. For so many of us, whether because of a common convenience or an obtuse obstacle in our lives, what once had priority is soon dismissed and dissolved. A once-grand resolution set aside for another new year. Asaph, the writer of Psalm 78, made a mighty resolution. With it, he and his fellow singers vowed to “tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD” (Ps. 78:4). And as the Psalm recalls the wayward history of Israel and the always-grand grace of our God, the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD are not hidden from their children. Indeed, a selfless resolution that’s impressive, vital and reason to give thanks. By the Savior’s grace, the same praiseworthy deeds that Asaph sung about have been passed on to us some 3000 years later. It is only by the LORD’s undeserved love that he resolved to save sinners like us. And it’s that same undeserved love by which we hold the precious truths of the gospel in our hearts and in our hands. God’s people resolved to sing of the LORD’s wonders then, and we, children generations removed, have received the benefit. Still today, a resolution similar to Asaph’s exists; and it does so in the form of the Solid Education Foundation. Christians still recognize the importance of an education founded upon the immoveable, unchanging rock of Scripture; and yet, for many, obtuse obstacles do stand in the way. As a result, the Solid Education Foundation is continually resolved to provide financial assistance so that students of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod might learn of the grace by which our sins are forgotten and heaven is opened. The Solid Education Foundation is resolved to sing of the LORD’s wonders and praise so the next generation might know! Please know how greatly we appreciate the help and support of God’s people. The prayers freely offered up to the Throne of Grace on our behalf neither go unnoticed or unanswered. And the financial gifts given to the Solid Education Foundation do not go unappreciated. While the praise always remains our Savior’s, a special thanks is due to all who help us in our resolution to “tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD” (Psalm 78:4). Thank you! And the Savior’s continued grace to you. Pastor Jesse Stern Lighting the Way With WELS Christian Education!
